How Video Connect works

Video calls are initiated by the incarcerated and paid for by family and friends through AdvanceConnect accounts – just like Securus phone calls are – so to be ready for video calling, please set up and fund your account today.   

Getting started with Video Connect is as easy as 1-2-3!

Step 1

Please download the Securus Mobile app. Then, create or sign in to your account. When prompted, tap Allow notifications so you will get alerts when your loved one calls.

Step 2

Next, set up and add funds to your AdvanceConnect account.

Step 3

Then add your loved one as a contact by tapping Launch in the AdvanceConnect section and clicking Video Connect Contacts. Follow the search prompts and when you locate your loved one, tap Add Contact.

Next, set up and add funds to your AdvanceConnect account.

Step 3

Then add your loved one as a contact by tapping Launch in the AdvanceConnect section and clicking Video Connect Contacts. Follow the search prompts and when you locate your loved one, tap Add Contact.

Before your first video call

Note: Some facilities may ask you to upload identification before you can receive video calls. If required, you’ll see that message during your registration. Just tap “Add Now” and follow the simple steps.

Once you submit your information, the correctional facility will review it, and you will get an email letting you know your Video Connect approval status.

1. Ensure your AdvanceConnect account is funded to accept calls.
2. Make sure you have a reliable, high-speed connection on your device.
3. If you’re on a network, keep other usage low so you have enough bandwidth for video calls.

4. Use high-quality audio accessories – recommended: headset/earbuds with a microphone.
5. Ensure your environment has adequate lighting – your loved one wants to see you!
6. Limit visual and audio background distractions.
7. Silence other notifications so you’re not interrupted by rings and dings.
8. Be in a safe spot – do NOT participate in video calls while operating a vehicle.

9. Create balance alerts so you know when to fund your AdvanceConnect account.
10. Set up AutoPay so you never have to worry about missing a video call from your loved one!

Where available, video calls from a facility’s Securus terminals are scheduled by you and initiated by your incarcerated loved one at the time you select when you make your reservation.  

Please ensure you’ve followed the steps above to set up, fund, and add contacts to your account. 

Here’s how to schedule a terminal video call:  

1. Sign in to Securus Mobile, select AdvanceConnect, then Video Connect Contacts, and Schedule Call next to your loved one’s name. 

2. Choose an available date and time (some facilities require a 24‑hour notice), plus your call duration, then tap Schedule This Call.  

3. Confirm your reservation on the pop-up screen. At your scheduled time, your loved one will start the video call and you’ll answer on your mobile device using our app, just like an incoming phone call. If needed, you can always cancel or decline the call, and it will not be charged.

With Securus onsite video calling, you get the advantage reserving your sessions in advance, scheduling visits when it’s convenient for you, and reducing waiting time at the facility.

You can schedule an onsite video session with your loved one at available facilities in the Video Connect section of our app. Just tap Schedule a Session, select Onsite, and choose the facility you’d like to visit.

Please ask your loved one’s facility about onsite video availability and policies.
