Securus Technologies, Inc. Completes SAS 70 Type II Certification
Press Release Jan 10, 2010
Securus Technologies, a leading provider of inmate communication services and innovative offender and case management software design, announced that it has successfully completed an American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 (SAS 70) certification. A SAS 70 certification indicates that an independent accounting and auditing firm has completed a comprehensive and in-depth evaluation and testing of Securus’ internal controls and related activities. This certification confirms that the company has effective controls and safeguards in place to manage information and data belonging to its customers.
Inmate telecommunications providers need to install and operate highly sophisticated call management platforms and related services to meet the security and public safety needs of correctional facilities. These platforms need to be able to accurately process, manage, and control millions of call records and call recordings for security and investigative purposes. A SAS 70 Type II report reinforces to correctional facilities and their auditors that Securus has the necessary controls in place to manage this critical information. Securus is the only inmate telecommunications platform provider to have obtained a SAS 70 Type II certification.
“We are proud that our auditors have provided us this certification,” stated Bill Markert, Securus’ Chief Financial Officer. “Successfully completing this vigorous third party independent review of our security and operational controls sets Securus apart from the rest of the inmate telecommunications industry. Our experience in providing correctional facilities with telecommunications and investigative services for more than 20 years has allowed us to develop and implement important and effective systems necessary to accurately process, bill, manage and control information and call records for our customers. I believe that all companies like ours should be required to have SAS 70 certifications because correctional facilities in the United States benefit from these additional controls.”
