Securus Supports Record High Single Day Inmate Calling with Capacity Capital Investments, Fully Staffed Network Operations Center (NOC), Technical Support for Facilities, and Domestic Call Center for Friends/Family Members. Audio Calling Increase of 11% and Video Calling Increase of 49% Marks Christmas Day Calling.

DALLAS, TX December 28, 2016/PRNewswire/ -- Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigation, corrections and monitoring announced today all-time records set for audio and video calling on Christmas Day 2016 versus 2015.

“We have a dedicated team of over 1,350 Associates (a.k.a. Employees) here at Securus Technologies that make sure all of our systems are fully functional, so inmates that we serve can call their loved ones to celebrate the holiday season,” said Richard A. “We maintain the hardware, software, technical support, funding mechanisms, and customer service operations at a very high level – to support the audio and video calling requirements of the inmates that we serve. That is critical to us on Christmas Day – and the other 364 days of the year,” said Smith.

“The significance of having all of our inmates and friends/family members using the same state-of-the-art VoIP platform cannot be emphasized enough.

“The key to achieving a low-cost structure in telecommunications is taking advantage of massive economies of scale – that means large platforms, redundancy of data centers, cloud computing and storage, using the internet (internet telephony) to the maximum extent possible, efficient computer languages, and management of troubles remotely through a Network Operations Center (NOC). We use all of these proven high-tech methods to allow inmates to maintain their relationships via audio and video calling,” said Smith.

The term VoIP specifically refers to the provisioning of communications services (voice, fax, SMS, voice-messaging) over data networks, rather than via the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The steps and principles involved in originating VoIP telephone calls are similar to traditional digital telephony and involve signaling, channel setup, digitization of the analog voice signals, and encoding. Instead of being transmitted over a circuit-switched network, however, the digital information is packetized, and transmission occurs as IP packets over a packet-switched network. Such transmission entails careful considerations about resource management different from time-division multiplexing (TDM) networks.

“Because we have a single audio and video platform for calls that is based on VoIP and we use our own private data network, all of our customers receive these benefits:

  • VoIP is easier to install, configure for your facility’s needs, and maintain;
  • We can support more safety and security related features – 900 for Securus;
  • We can detect and fix problems usually before our customers recognize the problem;
  • We provide quarterly upgrades of software (like Apple, Microsoft, plus other applications) to provide additional services and features that add value to facilities, approximately 50 additional products per year;
  • We can do all of the above at a lower cost than non-VoIP based systems.

“On average, we charge $.18 per minute for an audio call and $.24 per minute for a full video call, so $2.16 per call audio and $2.88 per call video – reasonable rates and we take pride in being efficient to continue to keep our rates low.
